Dear Fellow Worshippers,
Last year the CROP Walk had another successful year. The record for the most
amount of money raised was broken. There was approximately $31,600.00 raised
to help fight world hunger. This was a great effort put forth by the community
of Rome. WELL DONE!!!! The local community also benefited with over $7,900 staying
in the Rome area. In the past twelve years, the amount of walkers and the amount of
money raised have increased significantly. It is very important to continue the
success of the CROP Walk because the demand for food, education, and self-help has
increased as well. It is very important to get new and innovative ideas. Please
come and share with the CROP Walk committee some of your expertise, new ideas, and
your support. Your time and talents can be adjusted to a certain task with minimal
amount of time or you are welcome to join the committee and expend a great amount of
time and energy.
There will be an organizational meeting at First Methodist Church at 212 W. Embargo
St. at 7:00 PM on May 21, 2007. This year has been a very busy time for Church World
Service. Each year, neighbors and friends in some 2000 communities across the U.S.
make a difference locally and globally by joining in the local CROP WALK. Last year,
some two million CROPWALKERS, volunteers, and sponsors raised nearly $16 million to
feed the hungry, protect children, assist uprooted people and change the world.
This past year, CWS brought together its East African partner to find ways to expand
and enhance Water for Life/ Water for All program. CWS has supported one of the
largest humanitarian efforts in southern and western Darfur and has proven its
capacity again and again to respond to this humanitarian crisis. CWS supports
rebuilding lives and homes to thousands of families that are still trying to regain
normalcy in lives forever changed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Church World
Service has been there when and where there is a need. This meeting will inform you
about what CROP is and what CROP does and how we as a community can support this
very needy effort. This meeting is an opportunity to get to talk with you and to
find out where your time and talents can be utilized to best help CROP Walk 2007.
Please come and join us in the fight against hunger both in Rome and around the World.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 336-6251.
Sincerely,
Sue Hanson, Coordinator
CROP Walk 2007
